Horazio has been chair of MentorUP Alberta – Edmonton chapter since 2013. In his time with MentorUP, he has focused on providing leadership and professional development opportunities to early career professionals and underrepresented groups in Alberta. One of his goals is to raise the profile of STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) graduates in Alberta by forming relationships with professional associations, corporations, academia, and other groups.
Horazio holds a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering from the University of Toronto. His experience includes, working as project manager for high tech companies. Currently, he serves as Project Manager with Technology Alberta..
Moe started volunteering with MentorUP during summer of 2015. Shortly after, he was leading the events team and has stepped up to support various roles in the organization since. He recently took the position as the Co-Chair of MentorUP in November 2018.
Moe has Civil Engineering background, with 2 years of professional working experience in Mid-Stream Instrumentation in Oil & Gas. He is currently working in B2B Marketing with a construction power-tool designer and manufacturer. In the past, he has worked in Humanitarian Reconciliation project in Greece, during the refugee crisis in 2016. He often surrounds himself with people of diverse professional career backgrounds, and promotes inclusivity within the science and arts community. He enjoys self-discovery through reading existential literature, painting or exercising with gymnastic rings.
Ali is a recent graduate from the University of Alberta's Faculty of Science, where she focused on making medical tests more accessible to the public. She has volunteered with several non-profit organizations in Edmonton's science and technology communities. She is a strong advocate for diversity in STEM innovations. You'll see her on different platforms promoting workplace diversity. In her free time, she likes writing and cuddling with her tabby cat, Pumpkin
Christina began her role as Social Media Lead with MentorUP in May 2017. She has previous social media experience from her time volunteering with the University of Alberta Nanotechnology group. She loves to find and share information on professional development, careers in STEM, and chemistry. She is also an advocate for increasing diversity in STEM in academia and industry.
Christina obtained her Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Alberta, where she studied quantum dots for sensing applications. She is currently a Research Scientist and Mitacs Fellow with Applied Quantum Materials Inc. In her spare time, she enjoys crafting, exploring the Edmonton food scene, hiking, and playing alto saxophone.
Lin is a recent graduate from the University of Alberta and holds a Master’s degree in Food Science and Bioresource. Lin’s educational background is in wastewater treatment and biofuels conversion. Currently, she works as Team Leader supervising inventory events for RGIS inventory Specialists. She started volunteering with MentorUp in 2018 and has recently become team lead for MentorU event. She enjoys her time volunteering for MentorUP. She believes one can always learn something and become stronger from anything no matter how small the thing is.
Shaina has been volunteering with MentorUP Alberta since 2015 in the Mentor-Mentee Relations team. She has a passion to promote STEM education and continuous learning. She was born and raised in India, where from grade 8 she started mentoring/tutoring youth and under privileged kids on science and mathematics. As a part of MentorUP, she is thrilled to contribute to the growth of STEM culture in Alberta. She also volunteers with AWSN and PASS - Edmonton Chapter.
Shaina graduated from the University of Alberta with a Master's degree in Engineering Management. She loves working with numbers and forming strategies through data exploration. She is currently working at Canadian Western Bank in data analytics, and is a co-founder of WiMLDS (Women in Machine Learning and Data Science) - Edmonton Chapter. She loves to travel and play board games in her spare time.
Lav has been a volunteer with MentorUP since September 2018. His focus is on MentorUp’s partnership with other organizations to create new professional development and networking opportunities for STEM community in Alberta. He believes that diversity and collaboration are very important to make a difference.
Lav has Mechanical Engineering background with experience in manufacturing operations and industrial research. He likes to explore and learn new things. He loves nature and enjoys outdoor activities, specially bicycling, long walks, and meditation at lakeshore.
